Newsletter-McCarty Winchester

The Museum of Western Colorado has loaned us a Winchester Model 1886 rifle which was once owned by Tom McCarty and found in Delta after the 1893 bank robbery in which Tom McCarty escaped.

Following the robbery, the McCarty campsite was found outside of town and there were three Winchester rifles found there by the Delta County Sheriff’s posse. Tom McCarty’s Winchester denoted by his initials “TM” on the stock, ended up in a private collection which was given to the Museum of Western Colorado in 1985.  They have graciously loaned the rifle to the Delta County Historical Society Museum for a period of time.  After that it will go  back to the Western Colorado Museum in Grand Junction, Colorado.
